In addition to integrated projects in homerooms and special classes, children in grades three and four attend dedicated technology classes with the technology integrator for two one-hour sessions each 8-day cycle. The curriculum provides students with such basic skills as working with Google Drive accounts, organizing files, and basic coding. The time in the lab gives students the space to build creative animation, programming and engineering projects.

The Friends Seminary Lower School Technology program is infused with the Quaker principles of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship. Teachers work together with administration to ensure that students learn to become responsible Digital Citizens who will grow up using technology responsibly. We seek to help our youngest students balance their use of technology with time spent away from electronic devices.

Lower School students use iPads and computers to support and extend their classroom learning and to explore introductory computer science. The Lower School Technology Integrator and classroom teachers carefully select iPad apps that reinforce math, writing, science, and social studies and encourage problem-solving and creative expression. Third and fourth grade students continue to rely on laptops for writing and research.  In addition, the technology integrator collaborates with a range of specialist teachers on projects that weave technology in with their discipline.
