Why We Upgraded FWD

Dear Friends,

I am excited to announce that we are upgrading Friends Weekly Digest (FWD) to kick-off the 2017-2018 school year. Every Sunday at 8 a.m., you will now receive an email containing a link to the latest FWD issue. Upon clicking the link, you'll be directed to a Friends website login screen where you'll enter your username and password. (If you don't know your username or password, click here.) Depending on your device and browser, you may be able to utilize an auto-fill action for your username and password. (Here is how to do so using Google Chrome and Firefox.) Once logged in, you'll then be able to view the web-based newsletter. While many of you may have the initial reaction of "well, that's going to be annoying," I'd like to quickly share with you why we are doing this.

  • When accessing FWD, each issue will now be viewed within your own personal dashboard containing the school calendar, directory, resource boards, your child's daily schedule, and even your child's progress report; all of this info will be accessible by simply toggling within the dashboard. You'll be able to see how an event may impact your child's day, and you'll be able to visit the resource boards for related information. We've worked diligently this summer to consolidate and streamline all of our databases and web resources, so you can access everything in one place: at www.friendsseminary.org.

  • A password-protected newsletter will add an important layer of security, which is crucial as we share sensitive information within our community.

  • A web-based newsletter will allow us to make updates to an issue in real time. For example, if an event is cancelled or moves to a different location or time, the new info will instantly be reflected in the issue. While we would probably send an email announcing this change to such an event for those who may have already logged in and read the issue, the incorrect info can be updated for those who haven't read the issue yet. It is important that this updated info is correct in as many places as possible to avoid confusion. In short, the web-version you will be accessing will be up-to-the-minute accurate.

  • A web-based newsletter will allow us to utilize a variety of embedded multimedia within an issue and ensure that each issue will be mobile-friendly.
Overall, this upgrade will vastly improve the way information flows between Friends' three divisions and our many constituencies. Friends is a very busy place, and our new system is designed to get you the most pertinent and relevant information as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

John Galayda
Director of Communications
