Varsity Softball Wins League Title and Tournament Championship

With three victories in two days, the Girls Varsity Softball Team won the ACIS regular season title and the league's tournament championship.

With three victories in two days, the Girls Varsity Softball Team won the ACIS regular season title and the league's tournament championship.

The Girls Varsity Softball Team defeated St. Ann's by the score of 15-4 on Friday, May 11 to finish 5-0-1 in ACIS league games, claiming the league title for the season. Friends jumped out to an early lead with eight runs in the first three innings, including a two-run homerun by Elizabeth Berg '13. Elizabeth also added a triple and a single and scored four times in the game.

On Saturday, May 12 the team dominated the ACIS Tournament, winning the first game 12-1 over host Staten Island Academy. The championship game pitted Friends against Packer, the only team in the league that was able to play Friends to a draw this season. The final score was 11-1 and ended midway through the fifth inning when Friends extended its lead to 10 runs and the mercy was instated. Starting pitcher Kyra Benforte '15 overwhelmed the opposition, giving up only four earned runs in 15 innings over the three games. Solid hitting and stellar fielding by Celia Zaretsky '14, Sammie Barkan '14 and Anna Mairs '13 anchored strong performances by the entire team.
