A Very Techie Summer | Alums Return to Friends

This summer, three alums and one current student are working with the technology department in preparing the School for the return of teachers and students this fall.

“The interns take on many time intensive set up tasks, allowing for the technical staff to focus on designing new systems, evaluating software or researching new technologies,” said George Orio, director of technology. “Their years at Friends clearly shows in the effort, diligence and care they put into their work, on which the success of the technology depends. In spite of the intense demands, it's refreshing and fun for both the staff and students as they pull everything together for the coming school year.”

The alums, Vivian Deng '11, Jared Stern, '11, Bradley Kaufman '11, and current student Joseph Wang '15, work four days a week in the new technology office, and say that they are all interested in possibly pursuing a field in Computer Science or technology.

Stern, who is studying Computer Science at Brown University, said that despite the numerous tasks that he and his fellow alums are undertaking this summer, there is still time to enjoy the summer atmosphere in the work place. "There's a lot to love about this job. For one: George Orio. He's a funny guy. Also, we play with the Nerf crossbow (peacefully), eat snacks, and play with iPads. We like the process of getting everything ready for the fall."
