Admissions Update: A Banner Year!

March marked the close of an extraordinarily successful admissions season at Friends Seminary. Both Kindergarten and Grade 9—our key entry grades—exceeded all expectations.

KINDERGARTEN — CLASS OF 2027

In September, we will welcome 54 eager new kindergarteners (from 25 zip codes) representing a diversity of backgrounds and interests.

“With the elimination of the ECAA testing requirement for Kindergarten and Grade 1 and with additional staff to make on-site visits, we have carefully honed our process to create a more balanced, comprehensive and reliable assessment program,” said Harriet Burnett, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management.

Public response to this change has been gratifying, with applications reaching a record high.

GRADE 9 — CLASS OF 2018

Thirty new students from 20 independent, public and parochial schools will join the Class of 2018, next year’s Grade 9. An impressive 48% of those who will matriculate are students of color.

“Friends was a popular choice this year,” said Wendy Wilderotter, Head of the Upper School. “I’m very excited about this group.”

The Upper School was also the number one choice for our current Grade 8 students with very few students choosing other options.
