"We prepare students to engage in the world that is and to help bring about a world that ought to be."

Minute of Appreciation
Antonia Daly
Faculty Emerita

For 24 years, Antonia Daly has been a thoughtful and conscientious presence at Friends Seminary. She has served the School teaching mathematics to Upper and Middle School students, as well as teaching her true passion-environmental studies. Her stewardship of others and the earth have been a gift to the School.  Toni has always held her students to a high standard. She has believed in them and demanded that they put forth their best effort. She has a gift for seeing unrealized potential in students and knows how to bring out the best in young minds. She is distinguished by her ability to recognize the value of that which is not immediately obvious, to discern the subtle.   Just as Toni saw the Light in students, she saw the importance of environmental action years before green issues received true recognition. Toni has been, by many accounts, a pioneer of the green movement at Friends. In 1996, she instituted the first-ever Environmental Studies elective. Through her passion and determination, Toni has transformed Environmental Studies from a peripheral add-on course to an integral part of the curriculum.  Through her leadership as the Chair of the Sustainability Committee for ten years, she leaves Friends Seminary a more beautiful place in a real and tangible way. When the School began planning for the renovation of the Upper School Annex building, she spearheaded the movement to implement green building principles. She has been our "green conscious".   Toni's insight and leadership have brought a deep richness to the Friends community. We express heartfelt gratitude for the breadth and depth of service she has given to Friends Seminary and are proud to honor her as Faculty Emerita.
