"We prepare students to engage in the world that is and to help bring about a world that ought to be."

Minute of Appreciation
Paul Poet
Teacher of History - 1982 - 2005
Faculty Emeritus

Much has changed on the world stage since Paul arrived at Friends Seminary in 1982. And surely all the world has been a stage for Paul who viewed his World History students as a "captive audience," and approached each day's class as a new challenge, striving to make his course material consistently fresh and engaging for Upper School students who have a keen awareness and probing curiosity about current events. Paul has prepared decades of students for the AP European History exam, introducing them to historiography - the writing of history - and to the significant historians of the European past.   Imbuing Paul's approach to teaching history is an avid appreciation of philosophy and political thought, where he has urged students to think beyond the textbooks, and to engage in active discourse in order to better comprehend the past and the ge0-political complexity of today's world.  We express heartfelt gratitude for the breadth and depth of service Paul gave to Friends Seminary and are proud to honor her as Faculty Emeritus.
