Friends Seminary, in partnership with Envoys, is offering an exciting global education experience for Upper School students during Spring Break 2015.

Interested Upper School students will have an opportunity to apply directly through Friends Seminary. Information on the application process and deadlines will be sent out to students via email the end of September. Applications will be submitted online and will be reviewed by faculty and administrators organizing the trip. Priority will be given to those students in the Spanish-language program. Advanced level students will receive an even higher priority. For more information or questions about the process, contact Leitzel Schoen, Dean of Co-Curricular Programs or Micah Morris, Chair, Department of World Languages: Ancient and Modern.

In keeping with our mission to “prepare students for the world that is and help them bring about the world that ought to be,” this trip has been designed to ensure that participating students:
    • Greatly improve their Spanish ability through total immersion in the language, and view the language as a useful tool for their lives.
    • Come away with a deep understanding of multi-disciplinary themes like history, culture, politics, economics, and science in the Peruvian context with emphasis on knowledge and cultural heritage from indigenous communities.
    • Are provided with contexts, knowledge, and opportunities needed to act as global citizens and be of service to both their fellow human beings and the environment on an international level.
    • Gain a greater sense of personal strengths and areas of improvement in the areas of empathy, cultural competency, and leadership

MORE ON EDUCATING FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP AT FRIENDS
While a storied wrought-iron fence surrounds most of the perimeter of Friends’ 16th Street campus, Friends has never thought of itself as a gated community. It has always encouraged its students, faculty, and staff to think of themselves as participants in and shapers of a complex and ever-changing environment. Friends believes that such preparation is most effective when the outside world is not held at bay. This same principle holds true at Friends through a global program that is both “in and of the city” and “in and of the world.”
