Friends Seminary is excited to announce that Rosalind Wiseman, an internationally recognized author, teacher and thought leader, will be visiting Friends on Wednesday, December 3, as part of the Middle School’s social and emotional wellness programming. Rosalind’s work aims to help parents, educators and young people successfully navigate the social challenges of young adulthood.

During her visit, Rosalind will spend time interacting with Middle School students, teachers and parents; she will draw from her extensive research and experiences to offer wisdom and practical strategies that support teens in developing confidence, empathy, resilience and a healthy sense of self in relation to their peers and adults.

We enthusiastically encourage and invite you to participate in the parent talk and book signing portion of her visit, which will take place on December 3 at 6 p.m. in the Meetinghouse. This is an evening not to be missed, so please save the date!

Sincerely,

Pankti Sevak
Head of Middle School

P.S. To give you some more background, please have a look at Rosalind’s blog and TEDx Talk; in addition, we would like to highlight three of her books below.

Queen Bees & Wannabes, Wiseman’s first book, fundamentally changed the way that adults looked at girls’ friendships and conflicts. Drawing from the experiences of girls, boys and parents, the book provides insights into how girls navigate through relationships and feelings at this important life stage. Wiseman shows how girls of every background are profoundly influenced by their interactions with each other. The book offers concrete strategies to help empower girls to be socially competent and treat themselves with dignity.

Masterminds & Wingmen, Wiseman’s latest book, similarly shows what’s really happening in boys’ lives. It creates a new language and analytical framework to understand the power of boys’ social hierarchies and how these influence their decision-making and emotional well-being.

Finally, Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads validates the challenges of parenting through adolescence. Rosalind offers useful advice to help parents navigate difficult but necessary conversations. She provides some practical tools that enable parents with the ability to speak out, act according to their values, show humility, and set the kind of example that will make a real difference in their children’s lives.
