Friends, NYU Advance Partnership

Friends Seminary is pleased to announce an enhanced partnership with NYU that will expand the educational experience of students at both institutions.
Friends Seminary is pleased to announce an enhanced partnership with NYU that will expand the educational experience of students at both institutions.

Under a new arrangement arrived at by Principal Bo Lauder and NYU President John Sexton, up to 10 seniors at any given time may enroll in classes in NYU’s School of Arts and Sciences with no additional tuition. This expands and codifies an informal understanding between the two schools that dates back to the 1990s.

Furthermore, Friends will begin accepting NYU student teachers to work with master teachers in Friends’ Visual Arts and World and Classical Languages departments. Those student teachers will join the many NYU students, who for years have apprenticed in Friends’ Performing Arts Department. Friends will also continue to offer employees of NYU a discounted tuition for their children in the Upper School.  Associate Director of Admissions Boji Wong (Friends ’92 and NYU Law J.D. ’04) will serve as a dedicated resource for NYU employees regarding matters of admissions and financial aid.

“With a combined 413 years of service to education in New York City,” Principal Bo Lauder said, “it seems appropriate that our two institutions work to more closely align our missions in ways that can support our respective communities.”

In recognition of this heightened partnership and Friends Seminary's comprehensive Arabic language and culture program, the University has invited Friends’ Director of College Counseling Audrey Reynolds to be its guest at its Abu Dhabi campus from March 3 through March 8.

Currently, 21 students enrolled at Friends have a parent employed by NYU.

“These are two great downtown institutions,” Barry Friedman, an NYU Law Professor and Friends father of Samara ’22 and Simon ’25, said.  “What could make more sense than their pairing up? The synergies are excellent.”
