Important Information

Main Entry Grades Kindergarten and Grade 9  
To begin the process, applicant families ONLY need to submit the online application with the non-refundable $75 application fee. The remaining supplemental forms should be completed as soon as possible and before January 15. Priority is given to applications completed by January 15.
Attrition-based Grades | All grades except Kindergarten and Grade 9
Families interested in attrition-based grades are always encouraged to submit an online application.  No fee is required until an application becomes active. Please contact the Admissions Office to receive the Fee Waiver code. Applicants should send a current school report and, if taken, standardized independent school testing (ECAA, ISEE, or SSAT as applicable). Applications will be put on HOLD pending availability, and families will be contacted as openings occur. All supplemental materials can be completed once an application has been activated. 

Application Deadlines
  • Applications close once all interview slots are filled.  
  • All application materials should be submitted by January 15.  In situations where current school reports may not be available until after this date, we will work with families directly.
  • Families applying after January 15 should contact the Admissions Office regarding grade openings.

Friends uses Ravenna Solutions to manage all supplemental admissions materials.

Getting Started To start the process for entry grades Kindergarten and Grade 9, families ONLY need to submit the Application for Admission form (biographical information) by clicking APPLY ONLINE. Once this form has been received, the Admissions Office will contact families to schedule the Friends visit. For attrition grades, please see information above.

Scheduling Tours
Registration for Lower and Middle School tours begins on September 5. An application is not required to go on a tour. To schedule a tour please click REGISTER

For Upper School, tours and interviews are done together. Therefore, an application is required before scheduling. Click APPLY ONLINE.
Scheduling Interviews
Upon receipt of the online application, the Admissions Office will contact families via email to schedule interviews for grades in which there are openings. Please allow for processing time.
Application Follow-up
It is each family’s responsibility to ensure that all application information has been received by Friends Seminary. Families have immediate access to the status of their application through their Ravenna Solutions account. No decision can be made by the Admissions Committee until an application is complete. 

For students coming to Friends Seminary from other independent schools, all financial obligations from a student’s previous school must be satisfied before that student can enroll at Friends. 
Age Policy
Children applying for Kindergarten and Grade 1 must be five-years-old for Kindergarten and six-years-old for Grade 1 by September 1 of the year they begin school.
Application Fee Waivers
Application fee waivers are available only for applicants from the following programs: A Better Chance (ABC), Early Steps, TEAK Fellowship, the Albert G. Oliver Program, Prep for Prep, De La Salle Academy, George Jackson Academy, Breakthrough NY and the Boys Club of New York. Please contact the Admissions Office to receive the Fee Waiver code.

Early Notification 
An Early Notification Program is available for Kindergarten ONLY. This program applies to children of Members of the Religious Society of Friends, current sibling families, and children of current faculty and staff. Important Dates

The 2018-2019 dates are listed below for applications and files completed by January 15, 2018. 
By agreement with the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY), decisions on completed applications will be sent according to the ISAAGNY established dates. If grade openings occur after the established notification dates, admissions decisions will be made once the application process is completed.
Grade Entering: Kindergarten
  • Notification Dates (Delivered by e-mail): Friday, February 9
  • Parent Contract Deadline (no later than noon): Friday, February 16

Grade Entering: Grade 1 - Grade 8
  • Notification Dates (Delivered by e-mail): Not before Tuesday, February 6
  • Parent Contract Deadline (no later than noon): Thursday, February 27

Grade Entering: Grade 9 - Grade 11
  • Notification Dates (Delivered by e-mail): Not before Thursday, February 15
  • Parent Contract Deadline (no later than noon): Thursday, March 15 by noon
