"We prepare students to engage in the world that is and to help bring about a world that ought to be."

Grades 5 - 8

For 235 years, Friends Seminary has educated for "a world that ought to be." Despite these challenging times, Friends continues to live its mission by creating new ways to build community and to deliver an inspiring academic program.
The coming admissions year will be unlike any other given the uncertainties around the pandemic. To ensure both health and safety while preserving the integrity of our program, our process will be completely virtual for the 2020-2021 academic year. Although the process will be reframed, our program remains uncompromised, individualized and tied to mission. As ever, our goal is to warmly welcome all applicant families as we get to know each family and as they get to know our school. We are excited to share the Friends experience with you!

Application Process

PLEASE NOTE:  Given this year's challenges, we ask that all application materials be uploaded directly to Ravenna or sent electronically to admissions@friendsseminary.org. We will not be able to process hard copy information. Thank you.
Grades 5-8 are attrition grades.  Since unexpected openings may occur throughout the year, interested families are encouraged to submit an application without a fee. Please call the Admissions Office for the Fee Waiver code at 646.979.5041. Applications will be put on hold and families will be contacted as openings occur.
VIRTUAL TOUR (recommended)
Families are strongly recommended to take a virtual tour of our school which provides a lens into the Friends experience. To explore our interactive campus map and learn more about what we have to offer, click here.

Parents are invited to a live Zoom session to meet the Head of Middle School, who will provide an overview of our Grades 5-8 program, answer parent questions, and help parents envision their children at Friends. Click here to register!
  • We recommend families first take the virtual tour before registering for a Roundtable Conversation.
  • An application is not required to join these conversations. Although these roundtable conversations are optional, we encourage and invite all interested families to attend.

Important Information

Application Follow-Up
It is each family’s responsibility to ensure that all application materials have been received by Friends Seminary. No decision can be made by the Admissions Committee until an application is complete. Ravenna, our electronic application management system, allows families immediate access to the status of their application.

For students coming to Friends Seminary from other independent schools, all financial obligations from a student’s previous school must be satisfied before that student can enroll at Friends Seminary.

Families applying for Grades 5-8 after January 8, 2021, should contact the Admissions Office regarding openings.

For parents who do not speak English as a primary language, we are happy to provide translators for Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Arabic speakers. Please contact the Admissions Office before the scheduled interview so that we can arrange for a translator.
