"We prepare students to engage in the world that is and to help bring about a world that ought to be."

Important Information

Thank you for your interest in Friends Seminary.  Although the formal 2018-2019 application cycle is now over, unexpected openings may occur over the summer.  Therefore we encourage families to submit an application (without a fee) and to send a current school report so that we can start a file pending openings.  For more information, please contact Lorena Rengel or Kineta Wahl in the Admissions Office.

Getting Started and Submitting Materials
Friends uses Ravenna Solutions to manage all admissions materials.  Please click APPLY ONLINE to create your profile.  This account will be used to submit your application and supplemental application materials.

Main Entry Grades
Kindergarten and Grade 9
To begin the process, applicant families ONLY need to submit the Application for Admission form and non-refundable $75 application fee.  The remaining supplemental forms should be completed as soon as possible and before January 15.  Interviews are scheduled as applications are received, and priority is given to applications completed by January 15.
Attrition-based Grades | All grades except Kindergarten and Grade 9
Families interested in attrition-based grades are encouraged to submit an online application.  No fee is required until an application becomes active.  Please contact the Admissions Office for the fee waiver code.  Applicants should send a current school report and, if available, standardized test scores (ECAA, ISEE, or SSAT).  Applications will be put on hold, and families will be contacted as openings occur.  All supplemental materials should be submitted once an interview is scheduled.

Application Deadlines
  • Applications close once interview slots are filled.
  • All supplemental application materials should be submitted by January 15.  If current school reports are not available until after this date, we will work with families directly.
  • Families applying after January 15 should contact the Admissions Office regarding openings.
Tour registration begins in September.  For Lower and Middle School, an application is not required to tour.  To schedule a tour, please click REGISTER

For Upper School, tours and interviews are scheduled together.  An application must be in before a tour is scheduled.  Please click APPLY ONLINE to submit the Application for Admission.
Once the online application has been processed, the Admissions Office will contact families via email to schedule interviews for grades in which there are openings.  Please allow for processing time.
Application Follow-Up
Each family must ensure that all application materials have been received by Friends Seminary. Ravenna Solutions allows families immediate access to the status of their application. No decision can be made by the Admissions Committee until an application is complete.

For students coming to Friends Seminary from other independent schools, all financial obligations from a student’s previous school must be satisfied before that student can enroll at Friends.
Age Policy
Children applying to Kindergarten must be five years old by September 1 of the year they begin school, and children applying to Grade 1 must be six.
Application Fee Waivers
Application fee waivers are available for applicants from the following programs: A Better Chance (ABC), Early Steps, TEAK Fellowship, the Albert G. Oliver Program, Prep for Prep, De La Salle Academy, George Jackson Academy, Breakthrough NY and the Boys Club of New York.  Please contact the Admissions Office for the fee waiver code.

Early Notification
An Early Notification Program is available for Kindergarten ONLY.  This program applies to children of Members of the Religious Society of Friends, current sibling families, and children of current faculty and staff.  Please download and return the Early Notification Form to Friends Seminary.
