Julia Bates ’83


Julia grew up in New York City and attended Friends for 11 years, leaving when she was lured uptown to Chapin for her two final years of high school. She chaired the public phase of the Lift Every Voice Campaign and the 225th Anniversary Endowment Initiative, making her one of the most experienced fundraising volunteers at Friends. She served on the Campaign Planning Committee and on the Finance Committee of the School Committee. Julia is a Managing Director of JPMorgan Chase, head of Individual and Business Retirement within Investment Management Americas. Prior to this role she has had a number of increasingly senior roles in the firm. She joined J.P. Morgan Private Bank in 1994 as an investment specialist. She holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.  She and her husband, Peter have twin sons, Will and James ‘22.
Friends Seminary — the oldest continuously operated, coeducational school in NYC — serves college-bound day students in Kindergarten-Grade 12.
