Exploring Empathy

MS Participates in Social Emotional Education Day
Middle School students participated in a day of immersive learning, entitled SEED, on January 26. The day focused on learning more about social and emotional skills and explored how they manifest in daily life. The day began with a talk by Alan Brown, the keynote speaker for the day, and was followed by a series of workshops led by Friends faculty members.

Research demonstrates more and more that developing self confidence, self awareness and empathy are as critically important for long term success in life as academic benchmarks are. Our school has always been rooted in its Quaker values, and programming such as SEED will make some of these teachings more explicit and meaningful for our students through an alternative day of learning. Additionally, these workshops provided organic opportunities for students to develop new relationships with each other and with teachers, to further develop a sense of community.
