Using special modeling clay, instructors from Miami Beach’s Clay World will help students create figurines, animals, people, monsters and more! All creations built during class can be taken home. You can go to clayworld.org to see for yourself some of the creative projects to come!

Shakespeare Players: Macbeth Part 1

Grades 3-4

With Child's Play NY

When a coven of witches counsel Macbeth, he sets off on a destructive and tragic quest for power. Along the way, queens go mad, kings become ghosts, forests move and daggers float. A thrilling exploration of ambition, fate and magic. In our Shakespeare Players class, young people become confident with Shakespeare’s world, language and characters as they learn how to interpret a role with technique and courage. Classically trained professional actors assist the players in their physical, vocal and emotional transformations. Part 2 will be available in the 3rd Trimester with the final performance in May.

Tennis with Children’s Athletic Training School

Grades K-3
Be part of this innovative program that allows us to offer tennis instruction right here at Friends! Perfected by veteran tennis professionals and child education specialists, CATS lessons and exercises are carefully tailored to support children’s physical and motor skill development. Children will learn how to swing, volley and use proper footwork. With a focus on fair play and positive attitude, students will play real games each week.

TEKintellect Amazing Machines

Grades K-2
Build exciting mechanized machines from Lego components including motors and remote-controlled infrared activated components. Models include Hummers, dune buggies, airplanes, carousels, windmills, Ferris wheels, elevators and many others. Students will learn the scientific principles underlying these machines, including centrifugal and centripetal forces, power transmission, potential and kinetic energies, torque, inertia and angular momentum. Experience hands-on, multi-sensory, fun-filled experimental learning which helps develop creativity, organization, imagination and teamwork.

Xtreme Winter Football

Snowfall and Cold December winds would keep other classes indoors, but not so for Xtreme Winter Football. Utilizing “touch-tackle” rules on the new Skyfield, this class Keeps the game of Football safe and exciting. So lace up your boots and grab a pair of Gloves because we’re playing through the season just like the pros. Coaches will include Division 1 College Players.

Defy gravity with us as we explore the world of Oz through our favorite character's eyes! Students use the hit show Wicked and the original L. Frank Baum stories as a springboard for original work about life at Shiz University and within the Emerald City. The final showcase features their favorite songs, as well as original scenes. This trimester the Super Scientists will investigate, imagine, and create through the exploration of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy. We will put the scientific method to the test as we experiment everything from liquids to create radical reactions and super substances to modeling our solar system! We will explore the magical world of bubbles where the scientists will engage in challenges such as making the biggest bubble or tallest bubble tower. Science is always full of surprises and we can’t wait to share all of these exciting experiments and more with our SUPER SCIENTISTS!

Students will gain programming and designing skill through independent explorations. Possible projects include constructing Scratch games and animations with scrolling backgrounds and variables, designing fold-up houses for a cutting machine and creating a small community with them, coding geometric designs for embroidery, or sewing a toy or costume that is controlled with a Micro:bit chip.

One of the safest sports around and a proven workout. FATsters have the opportunity to join the blading craze by learning the moves from an “inline” pro! Hogwarts Academy

Hogwarts Academy is an interactive role-playing course based off the popular book and movie series. Students are placed into houses, concoct potions, perfect wand movements, identify creatures, and more! Roald Dahl Scene On Stage, Part 2

Join us as we explore the wild and wondrous worlds of our favorite children’s author! We rehearse a fully staged production of Roald Dahl's The Witches and delve into acting technique, comedic timing and character development. Song and spoken-word poetry also by Dahl will augment our rehearsal process. Class culminates in a final performance in February. Must have taken Part 1 to register. Class will end at 5 PM.

Aeronautics & Flying Drones

In this course students will study basic aeronautical concepts, the background in the history of aviation, within the context of the flight environment (atmosphere, airports, and navigation). The activities in this course are uncomplicated and fun. They have been developed by NASA Aerospace Education Services, and have been successfully used in student programs around the United States. The activities encourage students to explore the nature of flight, and experience some real-life applications of mathematics, science, and technology. Drones will be used to demonstrate the principles of flight. Each student will receive a mini drone at the end of the course.

Ice Skating at Chelsea Piers - OFF CAMPUS

Grades K-4
Put on your mittens and get ready for some winter fun! Learn all the fundamentals of Ice-skating in a fun and safe environment. Expert coaches will instruct the children on the ice where they will learn forward and backward skating: stops, including snowplow and T-stop: and crossovers. More experienced skaters will be challenged to move to the next level. Ice-skates provided. Group will return at 5:30 PM

Open to players of all levels. Beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, including basic strategy and tactics. Taught by professional entertainer and educator Harrison Kramer, “After School Magic” is a class for anyone interested in honing their critical thinking and presentation skills. As they make discoveries, participants will be encouraged to revise and debug their own code and designs and collaborate with their peers. For this F.A.T. activity, a strong understanding of fundamental programming concepts is required.

Registrations are due November 16, 2018. Any registrations received after November 16 will be processed only if space remains, and a Late Registration Fee of $25 will be assessed.
If payment in full is not received prior to the start of the trimester a $25 late fee will be added to your account.
Phone registrations will not be accepted.
For your convenience we now accept credit cards: checks are no longer valid.
Tuition aid is available to those who receive aid for the academic year.
After December 14, refunds or credits will not be given for changes to enrollment status.
Classes may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.

Late Pick-up

If a child is picked up late more than twice in a trimester, the school has the right to refuse to accept that child in the Extended Day Program.

Drop-in Info

Drop-ins are available for Early Bird, F.A.T. Activities and Extended Day.
Please send a note to your child’s teacher indicating a change in dismissal and that they will be dropping in to afterschool.
In addition to the dismissal note, please fill out our drop-in request form by clicking here.
This form must be filled out by 1:30 PM on the day of your drop-in. We will invoice you with the cost of the class, payment is expected within 7 days of billing. When your child arrives at FAT, we will give them the choices of that days available classes.
