This trimester the scientists will create crazy chemical concoctions through the exploration of all spheres of Chemistry! We will put scientific methods and theories to the test as we create crazy concoctions. We will make everything from Oobleck to Heat-Sensitive Slime! Do you know that you can write secret messages on slime? What about making slime that contains worms? We will explore the magical world of science as we dissect an owl pellet to determine what our mascot had for dinner. Want to explore the world of physics as we launch marshmallows with our extraordinary catapults and build our own rockets? Students role-play as diplomats and come up with solutions to key global problems like hunger, poverty and pollution.

This dog training class teaches the best ways for us to communicate with our furry friends. Using positive reinforcement as our foundation we will learn how to communicate with all different ages, breeds, and training levels of dogs. By designing enrichment toys for pups, making homemade dog treats, learning traits of different dog breeds, and teaching real live puppies new tricks, we will bridge the gap between pups and kids. "Be the Change" Club

Are you inspired by youth leaders around the world like Greta Thunberg and Malala? Is there a problem in your community that you would like to help solve? Join the “Be the Change” Club and work together with your peers to become leaders and positive change-makers in your school and community. The student members are in charge of this club! You will decide what problem to fix, how to fix it, and how to advocate for your solution. The “Be the Change” Club will be facilitated by the Service Learning Project (SLP), a NYC-based civic engagement program for youth. SLP has helped hundreds of elementary, middle, and high school students tackle issues ranging from child nutrition to bullying to street safety to homelessness to climate change.

So you wanna be a rockstar? This is your chance to rock n’ roll and put on a show! In this program, children will play real electric guitars, bass guitars and drums like a real-life rock band. At the end of the program, the rock stars will put on a 4-song concert where they will perform for their public. This program will be taught by our Lower School Spanish teacher, Luis Miranda and is open for 7 children between first and third grades.

This program is for those who love to move. This Parkour + Ninja Warrior inspired program will be centered on three things - Movement, Observation, and Community. We will explore basic parkour skills through obstacle courses, developing our personal practices and understanding of our own movement through exploration, and use movement challenges and games to build a friendly and supportive community. Great for those who love obstacle courses, tag, and the floor is lava.

Through independent explorations, students will continue to build their programming and design skills. Possible projects during the second trimester include coding with HTML and CSS, Exploring Dash and Dot and Cue robots, using Micro:bit chips to create magic wands with LED lighting, and programming a Raspberry Pi to keep track of the health of plants. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the applications of Adobe Creative Suite. As they make discoveries, participants will be encouraged to create new projects and games that help that help raise awareness about social issues or contribute in a positive way to their community. For this F.A.T. activity, a strong understanding of fundamental programming concepts is required.

In this dynamic improv class, students learn the tools to think on their feet, listen and respond with wit, and be creative in the moment. We start each class with warm-ups, shaking out inhibitions, and then we move into games that foster collaboration. Finally we work toward a fully realized (and funny!) final show - no script necessary! Kids get practice being spontaneous, collaborative and hilarious while making something they can be proud of. Improvisation is not only a great part of the actor’s toolbox, it is a powerful social skill that gets kids trusting their instincts, shifting perspective, and most importantly having fun! Registrations are due February 24, 2020. Any registrations received after February 24 will be processed only if space remains, and a Late Registration Fee of $25 will be assessed.
If payment in full is not received prior to the start of the trimester, March 9, a $25 late fee will be added to your account.
Phone registrations will not be accepted.
For your convenience we now accept credit cards: checks are no longer valid.
Tuition aid is available to those who receive aid for the academic year.
After April 3, refunds or credits will not be given for changes to enrollment status.
Classes may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.

Late Pick-up

If a child is picked up late more than twice in a trimester, the school has the right to refuse to accept that child in the Extended Day Program.

Drop-ins are available for Early Bird, F.A.T. Activities and Extended Day.
Please send a note to your child’s teacher indicating a change in dismissal and that they will be dropping in to afterschool.
In addition to the dismissal note, please fill out our drop-in request form by clicking here.
This form must be filled out by 1:30 PM on the day of your drop-in. We will invoice you with the cost of the class; payment is expected within 7 days of billing. When your child arrives at FAT, we will give them the choices of that day's available classes.
