Dot joined the Board of Trustees in September 2015 in one of the two faculty appointed positions. She teaches Grade 4 at Friends Seminary and has been on the faculty since 2002. Her prior work includes teaching third and fourth grades for five years with New Garden Friends School in Greensboro, NC before her move to New York City in 2000. Dot is a graduate of Guilford College where she majored in Elementary Education and German. She earned her M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching and an Ed.M. in Curriculum and Teaching with a specialization in Peace Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Other board service includes one term on the Brooklyn Friends School Board. As a birthright Friend, Dot was raised in Maine and is now a member of Brooklyn Friends Meeting. Her father is a member of Vassalboro Monthly Meeting, her childhood Meeting, and his family can trace its Quaker lineage back to the early 1800s, and possibly further.
