A Time to Break Silence

Interactive Exhibit Celebrates the Words of MLK

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1967 antiwar speech, "Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence," delivered at The Riverside Church in New York City. After studying it for a few months, a group of Upper School students and faculty/staff curated an exhibit of excerpts from the speech and images from King's life and anti-war work. The exhibit is on display now in the Rosenquist Gallery.

Parents, faculty/staff, and students in grades 7-12 are invited to visit the exhibit during the month of April and to use the provided post-it notes to record thoughts and questions. Afterwards, they should post their notes to the margins of the excerpts, enabling their thoughts and comments to become part of the exhibit.

Additionally, a group of Upper School faculty/staff and students have planned several community periods for the Upper School community to reflect on the focal point of the speech—breaking silence for the sake of justice.
