Seeking Refuge

Friends Announces Theme for 2017-18 School Year

The School is pleased to invite the community to explore in 2017-2018 the theme of “Seeking Refuge: The Ethics and Politics of Migration and Immigration.” Our world has been profoundly shaped by successive waves of human displacement, resulting in the largest refugee crisis since World War II. Economic downturns, environmental devastations, and political instability continue to catalyze human movement within and beyond national boundaries, forcing countries to consider the ethics of their response. Through annual large-scale programs, like Peace Week and the all-school Day of Service, as well as division-specific ones, such as the Upper School Day of Concern, we will examine this issue from multiple perspectives and seek solutions that can begin to solve our immigration challenges. In addition, Friends’ Center for Peace, Equity and Justice will host speakers, screenings, and book discussions throughout the year.
