Rooted in Quaker values and grounded in our shared commitment to nurture the Light in every student, we believe that education flourishes when home and school work in close, caring collaboration. Families help shape our community’s spirit—supporting students, strengthening connection, and modeling the curiosity, integrity, and compassion we hope young people carry into the world.

The Parents Association

The Parents Association (PA) is an active, inclusive volunteer organization open to all parents and guardians. Guided by the Quaker testimonies of community, stewardship, and equality, the PA fosters connection among families, supports faculty and staff, and helps enrich the student experience across all divisions.

What the PA Does

The Parents Association plays a vital role in building community and sustaining the traditions that make Friends Seminary unique. PA initiatives typically include:

  • Community-Building Events
Grade-level gatherings, new-family welcome activities, all-school celebrations, and opportunities that bring parents together across divisions.

  • Parent Education & Dialogue
Programs and speaker events that help families engage with topics related to child development, wellness, identity, technology, and the broader world.

  • Volunteer Opportunities
From class representatives and event committees to library volunteering or teacher-appreciation initiatives, families contribute time and talents in a variety of ways.

  • Equity & Belonging Efforts
In partnership with the School, PA committees support community-building across lines of identity and experience, offering programs and conversations that help us grow stronger together.

  • Support for School Life
Collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance classroom activities, community service efforts, and moments of celebration throughout the year.

Getting Involved

Every parent and guardian is considered a member of the Parents Association, and all are encouraged to participate in ways that feel meaningful and manageable. Whether attending events, joining a committee, or volunteering once a year, each contribution helps sustain the vibrant, interconnected community that defines Friends Seminary. There is no minimum time commitment—families engage at the level that works for them.

Opportunities include:

  • Serving as a class representative
  • Joining PA committees focused on community building, equity, service, or events
  • Supporting admissions programs as a parent ambassador
  • Volunteering at all-school events, performances, and celebrations

To connect with PA leadership or learn more about getting involved, families can access contacts and resources through the Parent Portal.

Family Engagement at Friends

Family engagement extends beyond the PA. Throughout the year, parents and guardians take part in:

  • Meeting for Worship and community gatherings
  • Division-level coffees and conversations
  • Workshops and speaker series on student wellbeing, digital life, and adolescent growth
  • Service and social action opportunities
  • Performances, exhibitions, and athletic events
  • Peace Week and other mission-centered celebrations

These touchpoints invite families into the life of the School, deepening understanding and strengthening relationships across our community.

A Shared Commitment

Families play a central role in sustaining the culture of care, purpose, and possibility that defines Friends Seminary. Through partnership, reflection, and shared stewardship, we create an environment where students feel known, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Together, we help young people listen deeply, act with integrity, and imagine the world that ought to be.
