Leadership at Friends takes many forms.

Students hone their skills in the classroom, on athletic fields and courts, on stage, and through active participation in committees and organizations. In the Quaker tradition, student leaders engage in the practice of clerking—helping a group recognize its voice as we seek unity in our learning communities.

Four standing student committees offer meaningful opportunities to shape student life and programming.

  • Service Committee organizes community and civic engagement projects and helps students connect with causes that resonate with them.
  • Agenda Committee plans and leads student meetings and events.
  • Student-Faculty Advisory Committee reviews rules and supports students in understanding and upholding community expectations.
  • Diversity, Equity & Belonging Committee works to strengthen our community through the recognition and celebration of our many identities.

Students also drive the formation of new clubs and lead activities for their peers. Each year, the Middle and Upper Schools offer more than 65 student organizations—from creative groups like Bedazzling and Yo-Yo Clubs to academic teams such as Parliamentary Debate and Model United Nations. Upper School students collaborate with the Middle School Model Congress, guiding younger peers through the bill-writing process. Student publications include the School newspaper, the literary magazine, and our award-winning yearbook. Culture clubs, open to all Upper School students, welcome Middle and Lower School students for visits, and identity-based groups provide opportunities to gather in affinity spaces.
