From early experiments with color and texture to advanced studio practice and exhibitions, students learn to look closely, think expansively, and express their ideas with increasing skill and confidence.

Across all divisions, the Visual Arts curriculum nurtures curiosity, encourages creative risk-taking, and cultivates an appreciation for art as both a personal journey and a communal act. Students work in a wide range of media, developing their artistic voices through hands-on studio practice guided by supportive faculty who honor the Light and vision within each learner.

A K–12 Journey in Visual Art

Artwork Presentation & Exhibition Opportunities

Artmaking at Friends is both personal and communal. Students learn not only to create, but also to share their work with authenticity, courage, and pride.

  • Hallway & Stairwell Galleries: Throughout the year, artwork from all divisions is thoughtfully displayed across the school, transforming everyday spaces into living galleries that celebrate student voice.
  • Lower School Spring Art Show: A cherished annual event showcasing the growth, imagination, and craft of every young artist in Kindergarten through Grade 4.
  • Middle School Displays: Rotating exhibitions highlight works from studio courses, projects across media, and collaborative pieces created in Grades 5–8.
  • Upper School Advanced Studio Exhibition: A culminating gallery show in which students present a curated portfolio of work, engage in critique, and share their artistic vision with the community.

Across divisions, exhibition practices honor each student’s process and invite the community to slow down, observe, and celebrate creativity in its many forms.
